Polynomial Time Algorithms for Minimizing the Weighted Number of Late Jobs on a Single Machine with Equal Processing Times
نویسنده
چکیده
We study the problem of minimizing the weighted number of late jobs to be scheduled on a single machine when processing times are equal. In this paper, we show that this problem, as well as its preemptive variant, are both strongly polynomial. When preemption is not allowed 1 | pj = p, rj | Σ wj Uj, the problem can be solved in O(n). In the preemptive case, 1 | pj = p, pmtn, rj | Σ wj Uj, the problem can be solved in O(n). Both algorithms are based upon dynamic programming.

Minimizing Makespan with Start Time Dependent Jobs in a Two Machine Flow Shop
[if gte mso 9]> The purpose of this paper is to consider the problem of scheduling a set of start time-dependent jobs in a two-machine flow shop, in which the actual processing times of jobs increase linearly according to their starting time. The objective of this problem is to minimize the makespan. The problem is known to be NP-hardness[ah1] ; therefore, there is no polynomial-time algorithm...
متن کاملA New ILP Model for Identical Parallel-Machine Scheduling with Family Setup Times Minimizing the Total Weighted Flow Time by a Genetic Algorithm
This paper presents a novel, integer-linear programming (ILP) model for an identical parallel-machine scheduling problem with family setup times that minimizes the total weighted flow time (TWFT). Some researchers have addressed parallel-machine scheduling problems in the literature over the last three decades. However, the existing studies have been limited to the research of independent jobs,...
متن کاملMinimizing the Weighted Number of Late Jobs with Batch Setup Times and Delivery Costs on a Single Machine
We study a single machine scheduling problem with batch setup time and batch delivery cost. In this problem, n jobs have to be scheduled on a single machine and delivered to a customer. Each job has a due date, a processing time and a weight. To save delivery cost, several jobs can be delivered together as a batch including the late jobs. The completion (delivery) time of each job in the same b...
متن کاملMinimizing a General Penalty Function on a Single Machine via Developing Approximation Algorithms and FPTASs
This paper addresses the Tardy/Lost penalty minimization on a single machine. According to this penalty criterion, if the tardiness of a job exceeds a predefined value, the job will be lost and penalized by a fixed value. Besides its application in real world problems, Tardy/Lost measure is a general form for popular objective functions like weighted tardiness, late work and tardiness with reje...
متن کاملApproximation algorithms for minimizing the total weighted tardiness on a single machine
Given a single machine and a set of jobs with due dates, the classical NP-hard problem of scheduling to minimize total tardiness is a well-understood one. Lawler gave an FPTAS for it some twenty years ago. If the jobs have positive weights the problem of minimizing total weighted tardiness seems to be considerably more intricate. In this paper, we give some of the first approximation algorithms...
